Google Adwords can be one of the most effective and affordable ways to drive traffic to your website. Recent estimates show that one in seven Google searchers clicks on the sponsored search results that appear above the organic results on the search engine results pages. This basically means that if you are willing to pay the price, you could capture one seventh of the Google searchers for any keyword you can think of. Obviously the price for a keyword like "cars" would be much higher than the price for a keyword like "article writers named Andy Keeler", but this evidence shows that Google Adwords can be a powerful tool.
So how do you manage such a powerful system? You need to make sure that your ads are well constructed and very relevant to the search that was performed by the user. You also need to be careful not to pay too much for clicks. A general rule of thumb is that you do not want to pay more for an inbound click than the price you could sell an outbound advertisement click on your own website. It should be easy to figure out a reasonable price to pay for inbound clicks based on the price of the items or advertising space you sell on your website.
Every pay per click campaign should be managed by a professional. I have seen examples of pay per click campaigns that point to expired domain names. Even if you have to hire a person to manage your campaign, it will be worth the money.
