Becoming a Webmaster

What is a webmaster?

Simply put, a webmaster is the person responsible for maintaining, updating and also creating a website(s). He or she may also be responsible for the promotion of the website by various means such as advertising and search engine optimization.

Why become a webmaster?

There are many benefits to becoming a webmaster. Some of the benefits are that there are employment opportunities across the world, many webmasters are self-taught, although it helps to have formal education, it's not neccessary and you have the opportunity to work for yourself

What you need to become a webmaster?

The skills neccessary to be a webmaster vary from situation to situation, however, the
basic skill-set in a somewhat in-depth knowledge of: x/html, css, javascript, xml, web design and graphics softwars and at least some knowledge of server side languages such as php, asp, and/or sql.

Path to becoming a webmaster

There are basically 3 ways to become a webmaster: you can go to school, either college or technical school, you can essentially fall into the position by helping to maintain, update and create sites at your place of work, or you can teach yourself and put up your own websites to display to potential employers or you can volunteer your skills to organizations to "get real" world experience.
